Enviroment Management

Environmental Management Policy and Implementation

In response to global environmental protection initiatives and in recognition that environmental management is a cornerstone of sustainable business operations, the Company has identified energy conservation and waste reduction as its primary objectives. By reducing pollution to comply with relevant environmental regulations, UNIC aims to enhance overall environmental performance. To this end, we commit to the following actions:

  1. Continuously promoting efficient use of energy and resources
  2. Continuously reducing the use of substances that are harmful to the environment
  3. Continuously reducing process waste and ensuring proper handling and storage
  4. Continuously communicating and promoting our environmental philosophy to suppliers and contractors

The Company will continue to implement the above principles through employee education and by informing relevant vendors to ensure understanding and effective action, thereby achieving the objectives of environmental management.

In addition, the Company has adopted a zero-accident approach as the guiding principle for environmental protection and occupational health and safety initiatives. UNIC continues to improve its performance in environmental protection and occupational health and safety management and has obtained ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System certification (certificate validity period: October 14, 2024 to October 8, 2027). These efforts support the establishment of a more robust and appropriate environmental management system.

In recent years, UNIC has continuously introduced environmentally friendly materials and advanced technologies through research and development. The Company actively promotes the use of recycled plastics and sustainable materials, effectively reducing the consumption of petrochemical resources, lowering carbon emissions, advancing the circular economy, and minimizing impacts on the natural environment.

Planned Action Areas:

The Company plans to implement the following initiatives:

– Improve energy efficiency of production equipment to reduce energy consumption

– Conduct Group-wide greenhouse gas inventories and implement management systems

– Optimize manufacturing processes to reduce carbon emissions

– Collaborate with upstream and downstream partners to increase the proportion of recycled plastic products and promote the application of green materials

In 2024, the Company successfully developed six recycled plastic products, which obtained UL 94 certification or UL 2809 recycled content certification. In addition, production sites have progressively implemented equipment replacement programs to enhance operational efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

Energy Management

UNIC’s current energy consumption consists of electricity and non-renewable fuels, including gasoline, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), with purchased electricity accounting for the majority of total energy use.

  • Total energy consumption in 2024: 39,931.99 GJ
  • Energy intensity: 6.78 GJ per NT$ million of revenue

Energy Use by Group Sites in 2024

Notes:

  1. The data covers UNIC Technology Corporation, Fuqing Unic New Material Co., Ltd., Unic Technology (Suzhou) Ltd., and UNIC Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
  2. Energy consumption is converted to gigajoules (GJ) using conversion factors from the 2023 Bureau of Energy calorific value table: gasoline – 7,800 kcal/L; diesel – 8,400 kcal/L; liquefied petroleum gas – 6,635 kcal/L; electricity – 860 kcal/kWh. Conversion formulas: 1 kcal = 4.187 kJ; 1 kJ = 10-6 GJ.
  3. Energy intensity is calculated based on each plant’s operating revenue (NT$ million), with revenues converted to New Taiwan Dollars at current exchange rates.
  4. The data is compiled from electricity bills and fuel purchase records.

Waste Management

Product waste refers to waste generated throughout the product life cycle, including scrapped products and electronic waste. As UNIC’s products are not consumer electronic products, no electronic waste is generated. The primary waste consists of production-line scrap and offcuts. The majority of such waste can be recycled and reused through processes such as crushing and reblending, and subsequently sold as environmentally friendly recycled materials.

In 2024, the recycling and circular reuse rate at UNIC’s major manufacturing sites (Fuqing Plant and Thailand Plant) was close to 100%.

Hazardous waste generated during production mainly consists of small quantities of materials such as packaging bags for color additives, gloves, cloths, and activated carbon. At the main manufacturing site (Thailand Plant), the recycling rate reached 100%, with all hazardous waste managed through recycling processes.
